The U.S. Census Bureau will begin an embargo for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. ET. The public release of these statistics is scheduled for September 11.
The ACS offers data on topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting, employment, mortgage status and rent, income, poverty, and health insurance coverage. It is noted as the only source providing local estimates for many of these subjects.
According to the Census Bureau, “The one-year statistics will be available to embargo subscribers beginning Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. ET for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, and other geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more.”
Embargo subscribers can access this information from Tuesday morning until Thursday just after midnight Eastern Time. Wire services are not allowed to distribute any news stories or data files before the official public release date and time. The agency’s embargo policy provides further details about these restrictions.
All related data products—including those on data.census.gov, through its API and summary files—will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.
Registration for embargo access is available online at https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
