The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a prerelease webinar to discuss the upcoming 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which are scheduled for public release on September 11, 2025. The session aims to help participants understand how to access ACS data and resources, as well as offer guidance on comparing statistics across different geographies and time periods.
The ACS collects a broad array of information about people and housing in the United States. Topics include language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. For many of these topics—over 40 in total—the ACS is the only source of local-level estimates.
One-year statistics from the survey will be available under embargo to subscribers starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. These figures cover all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional districts, metropolitan statistical areas, and other regions with populations of at least 65,000. The embargo will last until September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. News distribution services are not permitted to release any stories or data files before the official public release date and time according to the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All datasets will be accessible by the public after 10 a.m. ET on September 11.
Those interested in gaining embargo access can register through www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET and will feature Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office.
“The webinar will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Attendees do not need to call into the webinar to hear the audio. Credentialed media and data users will be able to ask questions during the webinar utilizing the Q&A feature and after the presentation through audio.”
