The U.S. Census Bureau will provide embargoed access to the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates starting January 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time for registered subscribers. The data will be publicly released on January 29.
The ACS collects information about various aspects of the population and housing, including language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment, mortgage status, rent, income, poverty levels, and health insurance coverage. According to the Census Bureau, it is the only source of local estimates for most of its more than 40 topics.
Embargoed data will cover a range of geographic areas such as all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional and state legislative districts, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, places, census tracts and block groups. Subscribers with embargo access may review these statistics from January 27 at 10 a.m. ET until January 29 at 12:01 a.m. ET.
Wire services and distribution platforms are not permitted to release news stories or data files before the end of the embargo period in accordance with the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. Public access to all ACS data products through tools such as data.census.gov and its API will begin by 10 a.m. ET on January 29.
Those interested in obtaining embargo access can register via the Census Bureau’s newsroom website at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
