The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early look at public school spending per student from pre-K through 12th grade, as well as state-level summaries of school system revenues and expenditures for the 2024 fiscal year.

According to the Census Bureau, fiscal years may differ among school systems, and the survey data have not been adjusted to account for these variations. The figures provided in this initial release are subject to revision before the final dataset is published.

The agency plans to issue the complete set of finalized data covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2026.
