The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These files allow users to create custom maps using various data sources.
The latest release features new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These include both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes that indicate which blocks have been split since the 2020 census. This update enables users to connect these geospatial data products with the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
Geospatial data provided by the TIGER/Line files cover legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as roads and hydrography. Users will be able to link these geographic boundary data to future 2025 demographic data on data.census.gov for map visualization of census tabular information.
While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be joined with demographic datasets from the Census Bureau. The agency suggests consulting its TIGER Data Products Guide page for assistance in selecting the appropriate product.
