Thirty-six communities in Georgia have been selected to receive over $36.2 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, according to an announcement from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The grants are part of an annual allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with the DCA administering the program at the state level.

Of this year’s total, $32.2 million will be directed toward infrastructure projects, while $3.9 million is designated for various building projects across the selected communities.

“Community Development Block Grants allow rural Georgians to have access to resources that strengthen their infrastructure, enhance community facilities, and improve overall quality of life,” said Commissioner Nunn. “These grants ensure that local governments are given every opportunity to thrive. When our communities and facilities thrive, so do their citizens.”

The CDBG program is aimed at non-entitlement local governments, with a focus on rural areas. Applications go through a competitive evaluation process where they are scored and ranked before grants are awarded based on merit.

“Community Development Block Grants are an important tool for Georgia’s communities to improve infrastructure,” said DCA Director of Community Finance Kimberly Carter. “This year’s grantees will be able to use these awards to bolster their infrastructure and housing needs.”

A full list of 2025 CDBG award recipients can be found online at dca.georgia.gov.

The DCA works with communities throughout Georgia on neighborhood development, economic growth initiatives, affordable housing solutions, and assistance programs for low- and moderate-income residents.
