Jennifer Challice, a student in Georgia Southern University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, has been awarded a $4,565 Military Spouse Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by Georgia Southern and the Landings Military Family Relief Fund.
Challice’s journey to nursing was not direct. Originally from Kennesaw, Georgia, she first completed a degree in theater and worked as a lifeguard at Walt Disney Co. Her experience with health and safety training influenced her decision to pursue a career in healthcare.
As the spouse of an Army intelligence officer, Challice has relocated multiple times across several states before settling in Savannah. These frequent moves made it difficult for her to continue her education uninterrupted.
Receiving the scholarship provided both financial relief and encouragement for Challice. “This scholarship lets me breathe,” Challice said. “Thanks to this scholarship, my husband and I have decided that we’re in a financially stable enough situation where I don’t have to work for the rest of the year and focus on my studies.”
She emphasized that being part of the accelerated BSN program at Georgia Southern allowed her to study alongside peers with similar backgrounds and to complete her degree within a timeline compatible with her family’s military commitments. “I don’t have the time for the traditional BSN,” she said. “I have to keep moving. I’ve got a fire under my belt, that’s for sure.”
The Landings Military Spouse Scholarship has supported 39 recipients since its inception; 37 of those recipients are either still enrolled or have graduated from their programs.
