Georgia Southern University will partner with Shimadzu Scientific Instruments to hold a forensic science symposium on September 10. The event, titled “From Concept to Courtroom: Advancing Forensics Through the Academic-Government-Industry Nexus,” is free and open to those interested in forensic science.
The symposium aims to bring together academic experts, government professionals, and industry leaders. Faculty from Georgia Southern will discuss how their expertise can support investigations. Experts from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will explain methods used in their work, while representatives from Shimadzu will present new technology for forensic analysis.
Ed Mondor, Ph.D., associate professor of biology at Georgia Southern’s College of Science and Mathematics, is organizing the event. Mondor is recognized as the only forensic entomologist in Georgia and often helps law enforcement with high-profile cases.
“We have many experts at Georgia Southern with specialized knowledge,” said Mondor. “That knowledge can often assist an investigation in ways you might not think about. Frequently it’s the key to understanding the case.”
The symposium will be held at Georgia Southern’s Continuing and Professional Education Center in Statesboro from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a catered lunch. Attendance is limited to 100 participants who RSVP by August 29 using this registration link: https://dub.sh/DkRhIIN
