Francisco M. Lugo, Ed.D., director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Georgia Southern University, has been named Campus Advisor of the Year by the national Sigma Nu fraternity. The award recognizes his contributions to the university’s Theta Kappa Chapter.
Lugo has served as an advisor to the fraternity for 12 years, providing support and guidance to its members. He described receiving the award as a meaningful experience. “For me, this award is less about recognition and more about validation,” Lugo said. “It shows that building relationships, investing in student leaders and advocating for the positive impact of fraternity and sorority life truly makes a difference. While my name may be on the award, it represents the work of so many people who care deeply about advancing the fraternity and sorority experience at Georgia Southern.”
The Campus Advisor of the Year honor is given to higher education administrators who demonstrate exceptional service in advising Sigma Nu chapters, including event programming, leadership development, research, and other areas.
Under Lugo’s guidance, Theta Kappa Chapter has received three Rock Chapter Awards from Sigma Nu’s national organization. These awards are presented to top-performing chapters across the country.
Reflecting on his role with Theta Kappa, Lugo said: “I’ve walked alongside them through their revitalization and celebrated their growth. The men of Theta Kappa have trusted me to walk with them on their journey, and I’ve loved investing in their leadership development and seeing them grow.”
Beyond his work at Georgia Southern University, Lugo has held leadership positions in organizations such as the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations and served on boards including the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. He also remains active with groups like the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and volunteers for Phi Iota Alpha.
