The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) marked Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada by expressing gratitude to military veterans within its ranks and across both countries. In a statement, IAM International President Brian Bryant acknowledged the contributions of those who have served.

“We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us,” Bryant said.

Bryant emphasized that many veterans continue their service after returning home by contributing leadership, discipline, and unity to their workplaces. “The same dedication that drives our veterans to defend our nation is what motivates them to build a better future for working families when they return home. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen our union and inspire everyone to keep fighting for dignity, justice, and respect at work,” he stated.

This year, IAM achieved a significant milestone through its Veterans Services Program. The union became the first labor organization officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This designation enables IAM military veterans and their families to access essential benefits more directly and receive trusted representation while navigating VA systems.

“This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a strong advocate helping them navigate the system they have earned with honor,” Bryant noted.

He concluded his message by thanking all IAM members who are veterans: “To all IAM veterans and every veteran: Thank you! Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never fully repay the sacrifice you have made, but we can—and must—honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”

The message was issued on behalf of IAM’s entire Executive Council.
