IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen recently visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3). Their visit focused on supporting education, organizing, and leadership development among members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
During their time at the center, Cervantes and Johnsen participated in Organizing I classes offered in both Spanish and English. They also engaged with students attending the Young Workers Leadership Program. The programs brought together IAM members from across North America to build skills aimed at strengthening the union.
Dora Cervantes emphasized the value of providing organizing education in Spanish. She stated that it is important “to ensure that all members have access to the necessary tools to lead.” Cervantes noted that her visit was meant to reinforce IAM’s commitment to inclusion, education, and empowering members throughout the organization.
Richie Johnsen met with organizers and young workers, acknowledging their commitment as they attended training sessions near the holiday season. He praised their dedication and enthusiasm.
Participants in the Young Workers program said that having union leaders present affirmed their place within the labor movement. They indicated that it confirmed “they have a seat at the table.”
