Taylor Rehmet, a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) union, has been sworn in as a Texas State Senator. Rehmet is recognized as the first rank-and-file union member to take office in the state senate.

Rehmet has held multiple leadership roles within the union. He stated that his move into legislative work continues his efforts to represent workers’ interests. “He explicitly pledges to address critical issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security and public education,” according to statements made at the inauguration.

His inauguration marks a notable event for both the labor movement and political representation of union members in Texas.
