The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has called on the U.S. Senate to approve the Protect America’s Workforce Act, legislation intended to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. The IAM’s appeal follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on March 27, which ended collective bargaining for federal unions.

IAM International President Brian Bryant sent letters to both members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate urging support for the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550). According to Bryant, “Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits.”

The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and has received bipartisan backing.

The IAM Union represents thousands of federal employees nationwide. Its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), covers approximately 110,000 federal workers across the United States.
