Mellow Mushroom will reopen its Decatur location this fall after a period of renovations, according to an announcement from the company. The restaurant, which originally opened in 2016 on W. Ponce de Leon Ave., will serve as Mellow Mushroom’s flagship store and feature both exterior and interior updates.

The redesigned space will include murals by local artist Ben Janik, updated bar and patio areas, and a new dedicated window for to-go orders. The Decatur location will be operated directly by the company rather than through local franchise ownership.

Founded in Atlanta in 1974, Mellow Mushroom operates 160 restaurants across 16 states. While most locations are locally owned, the company manages several stores itself, including Grant Park. The Decatur site was selected as the flagship due to its proximity to Mellow Mushroom’s Atlanta headquarters.

Guests visiting the reopened restaurant can expect exclusive menu items not available at other locations, as the brand plans to use this site to test new offerings before a possible nationwide rollout.

“Mellow Mushroom is Atlanta-founded and -based, and we’re committed to our presence in Decatur alongside the city’s vibrant community spirit,” said Ahsan Jiva, EVP of Strategy at Mellow Mushroom. “This location means a lot to Mellow Mushroom, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to return with new energy, reconnect and deliver the best-possible guest experience for the neighborhood.”

The menu includes hand-tossed stone-baked pizzas, calzones, hoagies, salads, sweets, gluten-free and vegan options. The bar will offer specialty cocktails and mocktails along with wine and a selection of local beers.
