Memorial Health has introduced photon-counting computed tomography (CT) technology at its facility, becoming the first hospital in Georgia to offer this advanced imaging system for adult patients. The new scanner features a detector that directly converts X-ray photons into electric signals, which allows for the creation of high-resolution images with minimal information loss.

According to Memorial Health, this advancement enables clinicians to obtain detailed visualization of fine anatomical structures during a single scan. The technology is designed to improve diagnostic accuracy and speed while reducing radiation exposure for patients. It also allows for more frequent scanning of patients who may require repeated imaging.

“This new technology offers significant benefits for our patients and our clinical team by generating high-resolution images with an impressive level of detail quickly and powerfully in a single scan, providing fast and reliable diagnoses for our patients. High image quality is balanced with lower dose administration. The new scanner offers a new level of detail for challenging patients who can now be scanned more frequently. With a focus on providing the best care possible to patients, this technology is redefining CT and how it supports clinical decision making.”

The acquisition of the photon-counting CT represents a $7 million investment by Memorial Health and its parent company, HCA Healthcare.
