Savannah announces holiday closures and changes to sanitation schedule

City of Savannah administrative offices and certain facilities will be closed on Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Emergency services will continue to operate during this period. Regular operations for city offices and facilities are scheduled to resume on Friday, December 26.

Sanitation services will experience changes due to the holiday closures. On Wednesday, December 24, residential garbage and yard waste collection will proceed as usual. There will be no collection on Thursday, December 25. Collection services will restart on Friday, December 26, following a one-day delayed schedule for the rest of the week. Additionally, there will be no collection service on Thursday, January 1, 2026; these services will resume on Friday, January 2 with a similar one-day delay.

Recycling collection during the week of December 22 is set for Wednesday, December 24 and Friday, December 26. No recycling pickup is scheduled for Thursday, December 25. The New Year’s holiday does not affect recycling services that week.

The Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer Station will maintain normal business hours on Wednesday, December 24 but close on Thursday, December 25. Both sites reopen with regular schedules on Friday, December 26. These facilities are also closed on Thursday, January 1, resuming operations the next day.

Street sweeping services are suspended both Wednesday and Thursday of Christmas week (December 24-25), with work restarting Monday, December 29. For New Year’s week (December 31-January 1), street sweeping is again paused and resumes Monday, January 5.

Residents are advised to consult their annual sanitation collection schedule or visit savannahga.gov/sanitation for more information about adjusted routes or call the city’s information line at 311.
