The United Way of the Coastal Empire has launched a fundraising effort in collaboration with the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) to provide support for federal employees working without pay during the ongoing government shutdown.

The initiative targets essential workers such as TSA agents, FAA staff, air traffic controllers, and Customs and Border Protection officers who reside in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, and Long Counties. These individuals have continued their duties despite not receiving pay due to the shutdown. The program also aims to help community members affected by the loss of federal benefits like SNAP.

Community members are encouraged to contribute through the Emergency Support Fund at https://give.uwce.org/p/emergency-support-fund. Organizers emphasize that all donations will be used to offer immediate assistance to those keeping critical services running.

“Every contribution—large or small—provides immediate relief for the people who keep our community moving. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and solidarity with these essential workers during this challenging time,” according to a statement from organizers.

Federal employees seeking assistance are advised to email 21*@**ce.org with “Federal Employee” in the subject line so they can be prioritized for available resources.
