The City of Savannah Municipal Archives has started a new project called StoryRoots: Mapping Savannah’s History. This initiative encourages residents to document locations in Savannah that hold historical importance, based on their own memories and experiences.

Residents are invited to participate by visiting the project website at savannahga.gov/storyroots. There, they can fill out an online form to share details about significant locations. The platform also allows contributors to upload photographs and other documents that relate to the sites’ history.

The information collected will be used to create the StoryRoots interactive online map. This map is intended to serve as a living record of important places, events, and stories that have influenced Savannah’s past. The city says public input will help guide future efforts in preserving and honoring local history.

For more information about the Municipal Archives or questions about the project, Luciana Spracher, Archives & History Officer, can be contacted by email at Lspracher@savannahga.gov or by phone at (912) 663-7075.
