Aaron Kelton has resigned as head football coach at Savannah State University, effective immediately, according to an announcement from the university.
“I would like to thank the players, coaches, alumni and Savannah Community for the support they have given over the last four years,” said Coach Kelton. “It was an honor to lead the football program and though we didn’t meet the expectations with our record, we have created a foundation the will help lead the players to a successful life after football. I take with me many great memories and relationships. Go Tigers!”
Kelton took over as the 27th head coach in program history in 2022. Over his four seasons, he recorded a 16–24 overall record and went 11–20 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) games.
Director of Athletics Opio Mashariki commented on Kelton’s departure: “We thank Coach Kelton for leading the Savannah State University football program for the last four seasons and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
The university announced that it will start a national search for its next head football coach immediately.
