Savannah State University names Dr. Jan Alexia Boulware as associate provost

Savannah State University has announced the appointment of Dr. Jan Alexia Boulware as Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Boulware comes to Savannah State from Bethune-Cookman University, where she was Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Boulware to the Tiger family,” said Dr. Jermaine Whirl, President of Savannah State University. “Her experience and vision will be instrumental as we continue to advance student-centered learning and prepare our graduates for success in a rapidly evolving workforce.”

Dr. Boulware has more than 15 years of experience in higher education administration. She has a background in academic innovation, fiscal management, faculty development, curriculum reform, accreditation leadership, and student success initiatives. In her new role, she will oversee efforts to enhance academic programs, support faculty innovation, and broaden interdisciplinary learning at Savannah State.

“Dr. Boulware brings a depth of experience and a forward-thinking approach that aligns perfectly with our academic vision,” said Dr. Marcus Cox, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Her leadership will play a vital role in advancing the academic excellence and dynamic learning environment that define Savannah State University.”

Dr. Boulware is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a Doctor of Arts in Humanities (English) from Clark Atlanta University, a Master of Education in Reading Education from Mercer University, and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern University. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Savannah State University has welcomed Dr. Jan Alexia Boulware as part of its academic leadership team.
