The 5 Spot restaurants, part of the GLGSAV group, have launched a new scholarship program called Serving Success to support employees pursuing education in hospitality and related fields. The first $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to Jordin Watkins, a freshman at Savannah Technical College and team member at The 5 Spot in Richmond Hill.
Watkins started working at The 5 Spot as a dishwasher when the restaurant opened in January 2024 and now works as a host. He is currently studying hospitality and restaurant tourism at Savannah Technical College with aspirations to run restaurants that combine accessibility for the community with fine dining experiences.
“Working at The 5 Spot has given me a sense of family and a passion for the hospitality industry,” said Jordin. “The support I’ve received here—and now this scholarship—makes me want to give back by creating restaurants where people feel welcome, valued, and excited to return.”
The Serving Success program is funded by allocating $1 from every fried pickle appetizer sold at The 5 Spot restaurants directly into the scholarship fund. Employees can apply each year for scholarships ranging from $250 to $2,000 to help cover tuition, books, supplies, housing, or other educational expenses.
“At The 5 Spot, we believe in serving more than just food—we believe in serving opportunity,” said Brian Huskey, owner of GLGSAV and The 5 Spot restaurants. “Jordin’s story is exactly why we launched this scholarship: to help our team members turn their passion into a lifelong career. Every fried pickle sold is more than an appetizer—it’s an investment in our people and our community.”
GLGSAV operates several local establishments including b. Matthew’s Eatery and Abe’s on Lincoln. The company plans to donate over $30,000 within its communities during 2025.
