The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated population estimates and projections, along with other demographic data, for 21 countries and areas in its International Database (IDB). The new information extends through the year 2100.
Countries included in this update are Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, El Salvador, Eswatini, Guatemala, Iran, Jamaica, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Togo, Tunisia, the United States and Zambia. In addition to national-level figures for these locations, the release covers data for 13,671 subnational areas worldwide that are comparable to states or counties in the United States. Enhanced mapping features accompany this data.
The update uses recent information from censuses and surveys as well as administrative records to refine population estimates and projections. These analyses help improve understanding of demographic indicators such as population size by sex and single year of age up to 100-plus years old. The database also includes components of change like mortality rates, fertility rates and net international migration across more than 220 countries and areas.
The U.S. Census Bureau periodically updates the International Database when new data become available. Information from this latest release can be accessed on the International Database Overview webpage at https://www.census.gov/data-tools/demo/idb/informationGateway.php.
